LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

(continued from homepage)

As result of his early training under the tutelage of Dr. Paul Woods in London, he recognized the need for creating a  program to care for the pediatric survivors of congenital heart disease, and so in 1981 he established the UCLA Adult Congenital Heart Program.   The program, which was organized to provide expert patient care, physician training and research rapidly gained national and international recognition. Today, it is the model by which other programs have been developed.  The ACHD Center was the first, and remains one of the largest, such facilities in the United States.

In 2001, Dr. Perloff stepped down as Director of the Center, but continues to teach and lecture throughout the world.  As we look back on his career, it is fitting that the American College of Cardiology honor a man who has dedicated his life to scientific teaching and research to further our understanding of this emerging field of adult congenital heart disease.

Congratulations Dr. Perloff.
